No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic comes back from first loss to sweep No. 3 Lynn 5-0
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Armstrong Atlantic rebounded from its first loss of 2013 to blank No. 3-ranked Lynn 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Perper Tennis Complex.
The Pirates moved to 13-1 on the season while the Knights dropped their second straight match, falling to 14-3.
Armstrong swept all three doubles matches to take a quick 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The No. 1-ranked doubles duo of Georgi Rumenov and Dan Regan defeated the No. 4-ranked duo of Vlad Cirla and Willi Wolfer 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 9-ranked duo of Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia knocked off Pavel Mohja and Max Kouyate 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Matus Mydla and Jaan Kononov completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win against Simon Gloeckner and Alessio Iannozzi at No. 3 doubles.
The Pirates then won two singles matches to clinch the match. No. 9-ranked Mydla won at No. 1 singles when No. 4-ranked Wolfer had to retire in the second set 6-0, 1-0. Pablo Gor clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Mohja at No. 5 singles. The other singles matches were not completed.
