SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire was selected to repeat as Northeast-10 Conference champions in a preseason poll of the league’s head coaches released Monday.
The Penmen garnered nine of 14 first-place votes to rank ahead of Stonehill, which received a pair of first-place nods. Saint Michael’s, Adelphi and Bentley rounded out the top five, with the Panthers receiving two first-place votes and Bentley one.
SNHU, which is off to a 4-0 start and ranked No. 38 in Division II, returns nine players from last season’s team that posted a 20-2 record, including a 13-0 NE-10 mark, and captured both the conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Penmen also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Senior Amber Chandronnait has garnered Northeast-10 Player of the Year honors in each of the past two seasons and is looking to become just the second player in the 26-year history of NE-10 tennis to win the award three times.
