Barry rolls Rollins, 5-0

Second consecutive 5-0 victory in conference tournament

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Barry University advanced to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament title match tomorrow with a 5-0 win against No. 9 Rollins College. The fourth-ranked Bucs started the morning posting a perfect 3-0 mark in doubles. At the top flight, the second-ranked team of Barbi Pocza and Angie Werschel beat Margaret Junker and Kayli Ragsdale 9-8 (8-6). Alex Gwizdowski and Laura Boguet defeated Lisa Loft and Stefania Tkach 8-4 at the second flight. At No. 3 doubles, Julie Stas and Olivia Matuszak downed Roshni Luthra and Allie Steele 8-6.

In singles action, Barry only needed two points to take the win. Those points came in the fourth flight and at No. 6. At No. 4 singles, Matuszak blanked Tkach 6-0, 6-0, and in the sixth flight, Mona Monsour didn’t allow Ashley Rosenberg to take a game, winning 6-0, 6-0.

With the win, the Bucs will face No. 3 Lynn in the championship match tomorrow at 9 am. Both the Bucs and Knights are flawless so far in the tournament, taking 5-0 wins in both of their matches. Barry downed Saint Leo 5-0 on Thursday while Lynn beat Tampa on Thursday and Florida Tech, today, both by a 5-0 score.
