MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State director of athletics Allen Ward announced that Kara Amundson has been hired asinterim women’s tennis coach. Amundsun will assume the post Aug. 15.
“I’m pleased Coach Amundson has agreed to serve in this role. It’s important to the team and program to have stability and leadership heading into the new year. Kara is an excellent coach and a fine tennis player. She’s the perfect person to lead the team in this interim period,” said Ward.
“I regret that our initial search didn’t afford us with an ideal candidate,” said Matt Kelly, senior associate athletic director, who also has sport oversight for women’s tennis. “But hiring the right person is paramount and this interim move will give us the timeframe to do so. We’re very fortunate that Kara has agreed to lead the program for the upcoming season. The kids are going to love her.”
Amundson most recently served as assistant softball coach for the Racers. However, she was a tennis player in high school and had offers to continue playing tennis in college. Amundson was all-state performer in Minnesota.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead the women’s tennis program during this interim period,” said Amundson. “I love the game of tennis and enjoy playing to this day. I look forward to getting to know the team and using my knowledge to help improve their game. This may be an intermim period, but I expect to compete for an OVC Championship.”
