ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The #11 University of California-San Diego swept past #29 Kutztown 5-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II National Championships. Notching victories at all three doubles positions, the Tritons (20-3) took the early advantage heading into the singles action. In their 22nd NCAA appearance, UC-San Diego now advances to the quarterfinals tomorrow against the winner of the #2 Armstrong Atlantic/Nebraska-Omaha opening round.

Bringing in the first point of the match, the 17th-ranked pair in the nation Marsha Malinow and Tara Siddiqui blanked Kerstin Kloeffer and Priya Pachkawde 8-0 at the top position. Battling out a 9-7 victory at the second spot, the 21st-ranked team of Kristin Bronowicki and Katie McKee defeated Amy Withers and Jharna Nansi. Finishing the doubles sweep, Jasmin Dao and Marissa Hilker took down Bianca Blatz and Lauren Losoncy by the score of 8-1.

Needing just two singles victories to decide the match, the Tritons' bottom of the lineup came through for the points. At the fifth spot, Katie McKee swept past Kristen Bodalski 6-0, 6-0 while Leigh Roberts clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Vanessa Walsh.

The Tritons will now play in the quarterfinal tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Sanlando Park.
