#8 Columbus State 5, Northwest Missouri State 0

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The #8 Columbus State women's tennis team began their quest for a national championship today as they pushed past Northwest Missouri State by the score of 5-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Lady Cougars (23-5) began by sweeping all the doubles matches before picking up two singles victories over the Bearcats (19-9) to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

With the first result of the match, the third-ranked doubles duo of Diana Gherghi and Zuzana Valekova blanked 22nd-ranked Gena Lindsay and Erica Ramirez 8-0 at the top position as Agata Polcyn and Raluca Moldavan pushed past Carolina Amaral and Danielle Cartier 8-2 at the second spot. Finishing the doubles sweep, Suzanne Visagie and Marianne Berry took down Amanda Hardie and Raven Herner 8-3 on the third court.

Needing just two singles points, the Lady Cougars tallied their fourth win at No. 3 singles as Visagie defeated Amaral 6-1, 6-2 and Berry closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Danielle Cartier at the sixth spot.

Competing in their eighth NCAA National Tournament, the Lady Cougars will now play #1 BYU-Hawai'i tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals at Sanlando Park.
