#3 Valdosta State 5, #18 Ferris State 0

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The third-ranked Valdosta State Lady Blazers burned through the #18-ranked Farris State Bulldogs 5-0 in the round of 16 at the 2005 NCAA Division II National Tennis Championships. The match, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed due to weather until Thursday morning.

The Blazers took all three doubles points in commanding fashion. The tenth-ranked team of Eva Petschnig and Annika Biro made short work of the #25 team from Ferris, Leila Salek and Marissa Muchow 8-2. Valdosta's Anne Corten and Marina Galey won by the same score over Molly Basha and Nicole Berger, while Iris Staub and Clair McKinnon defeated Allison Halbert and Jenna O'Dell 8-1 at number three.

In singles, MiKinnon continued her quick work, defeating Berger 6-1, 6-1 at the sixth flight. Petschnig, ranked number five nationally, sealed the match for the Blazers with a 6-1, 6-2 win over #25-ranked Basha at the top flight.

The Lady Blazers will now face the Kinghts of Lynn University at 4:00 pm today in the quarterfinals.
