#4 West Florida 5, #15 Northwood 3

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The #4 West Florida women's tennis team held off #15 Northwood (Mich.) today 5-3, advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championship quarterfinal round. Making their eighth NCAA appearance, the Argonauts (23-5) jumped in front of the Timberwolves (22-1) by the score of 2-1 after doubles competition and continued to tally three singles points for the victory.

Paola Arevalo and Pilar Cortes notched West Florida's first point with an 8-3 win over def. Sue Rossano and Kristina Bogdanovic at the second doubles position. Northwood knotted the score at one point apiece as 20th-ranked Aurelie Deridzard and Julia Goncalves knocked off sixth-ranked Nicole Plikat and Eva Papastratides 8-6 at the top position. Giving the Argonauts the lead through doubles competition, Diana Olave and Giulianna Oblitas defeated Inga Hildesheim and Cristina Olivera by the score 8-3 at the third spot. Northwood battled to take the lead at the beginning of singles action with 32nd-ranked Rossano overpowering eighth-ranked Plikat 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot, while 50th-ranked Bogdanovic fought out a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 win over 45th-ranked Arevalo (UWFW) 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 at the second position. Down 3-2, West Florida's bottom of the lineup came through with three big wins as Cortes took down Hildesheim 6-4, 7-5 at the fourth position and Olave pushed them in front with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Goncalves at the fifth spot. Clinching the come-from-behind victory for the Argonauts at the sixth position, Oblitas downed Olivera 6-1, 6-4. West Florida moves on to the quarterfinals today at 4 p.m., tangling with #5 Barry at Sanlando Park.
