AMHERST, MA The Saint Lawrence University womens tennis team defeated Plymouth State University on the campus of Amherst College in the First Round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. Plymouth State finishes the season at 8-4, while Saint Lawrence improves to 16-2. The Saints will take on regional host Amherst College (14-4) Saturday at 10 a.m. in a Second-Round match-up.

Saint Lawrence took a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play, as the Saints pairs cruised to victories of 8-1, 8-1 and 8-2. After a 10-minute warm-up period, the fast-paced match resumed with Elizabeth Karam and Casey Gilman picking up wins in the #3 and #5 singles matches, respectively, to make the win official for Saint Lawrence.

Hunter 5, Wilkes 1May 4, 2007

AMHERST, MA - The Hunter College womens tennis team advanced to the Second Round of the Division III NCAA Championship Tournament with a 5-1 win over Wilkes University. The Colonels end their season with a 17-2 record, while the Hawks improve to 23-0. Hunter will take on The College of New Jersey (14-1) Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in a Second-Round match in Amherst.

Hunter earned victories in the #1 and #2 doubles matches by scores of 8-3 and 8-2, respectively, before Sarah El-Edlibi and Jane Nassisi edged out Wilkes Jotanna OConnell and Sara Ryder in the third match, 9-8 (9-7) to give the Hawks a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Colonels Katie Buckley earned a win in the #6 singles match, but Hunter came back with victories in the #1 and #4 matches to seal the 5-1 win and advance to the next round of the tournament.
