The top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic women’s tennis team defeated Northeastern State 5-0, Wednesday morning in the Round of 16 at the Women’s Tennis 2010 National Championships from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Pirates started their morning with a sweep of doubles action as the tandem of Alida Muller-Wehlau and Matina Beckmann won a hard-fought match over the duo of Osinka and Spiritovic by the score of 8-5. The No. 2 team of Gabriella Kovacs and Sona Novakova provided an 8-0 shutout for the Pirates second point and Tina Ronel and Kathleen Henry were 8-3 winners over Cichon and Romanova at No. 3 doubles.

Victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles sealed the deal for the Pirates as Kovacs registered a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4, while Beckmann concluded the contest with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chanay.

Armstrong Atlantic advances to the Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 13 against Barry. The match is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
