ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 16-ranked Northwood (MI) women's tennis team defeated No. 44 Queens (NY) 5-1, Wednesday afternoon in the Round of 16 at the Women's Tennis 2010 National Championships from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

Northwood (MI) takes three consecutive singles matches to secure spot in Quarterfinals.

The Northwood Timberwolves quickly put a point on the board as the No. 3 doubles group of Kim-Jenny Dihn and Charlotte Sevin took down the Knights' pair of Barber and Celi, 8-1. Soon after, the Timberwolves pair of Darina Berkova and Anne-Sophia Goujet added another point to the teams' total with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles spot. The No. 1 spot, however, belonged to Queens, as their No. 1 pair of Somadi Druker and Erika Goldsmith topped Svenja Stephan and Ayana Kobayshi, 8-4.

The victory couldn't spark the Knights to a singles win, however, as the Timberwolves rallied-off three-straight to solidify the match. Dihn registered the most impressive victory of the three, winning in straight-sets 6-1, 6-2. Sevin was also convincing in her match posting straight-sets 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 5 slot. It was followed by the match-clinching 6-2, 6-2 win by Goujet in the No. 6 position.

With the match secured, the remaining match went unfinished.

Northwood (MI) advances to the Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 13 to take on BYU-Hawaii. The match is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
