No. 19 Drury falls to Washburn
Lady Blues take all three doubles points, split singles
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues kicked off their spring season with a bang with a 6-3 win against No. 19-ranked Drury on the road at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
Washburn started the match by sweeping doubles play as the No. 1 duo of Alyssa Castillo and Jamie Blackim took down Alana Bellinger and Palagie Gamo 8-6. The No. 2 team of Morgan Rainey and Whitley Zitsch knocked off Abbey Sharpe and Ivana Marevic 8-5 while the No. 3 team of Elektra Hunter and Annie Doole outlasted Ellen Bennett and Valentine Lambrechts 9-8.
In singles action, Rainey won a three-set match against Sharpe 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Castillo topped Lambrects 6-3, 6-0 and Kristen McKee won a three-setter of Bennett 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
Drury won the Nos. 2-4 singles slots, each in straight sets.
