Hills wins three-set marathon to help No. 13 Pioneers to 8-1 win
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 13 Francis Marion remained undefeated on the season as the Patriots posted an 8-1 win against host Tusculum on Saturday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
FMU (6-0) swept the three doubles matches, while capturing points at five of the six singles bouts.
The fifth-ranked tandem of Jitka Gavdunova and Mona Blauen got things started as they defeated the No. 1 doubles pairing of Courtney Conley and Megan Buckmaster 8-4.
Gavdunova, the No. 35 ranked player in NCAA Division II, followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Conley in the singles top flight. No. 31 Blauen served one better as she routed Megan Buckmaster in straight sets without giving up a game 6-0, 6-0.
Tusculum's lone point of the match game at No. 6 singles as Katie Hills rallied from a set down to defeat FMU's Kathryn Vernon 6-7, 6-4, 10-2.
