Clayton St. victorious on senior day
Lakers have won eight of nine, peaking at right time
MORROW, Ga.-- No. 12 Clayton State concluded the 2011 regular season in fine fashion on Tuesday with a 7-2 victory against Augusta State in Peach Belt Conference action at Laker Courts.
The victory concludes Clayton State’s regular season 13-6 overall and 9-3 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Lakers finished the regular season in a flourish, winning eight of their final nine matches. Tuesday also marked the final regular season home match for Clayton State seniors Viktoriya Semyrodenko and Katie White.
Augusta State finished its regular season 13-8 overall and 7-5 in the Peach Belt.
The Lakers swept all six matches in singles. Semyrodenko (No. 1), White (No. 2), Ivana Krommelova (No. 3), Marie Cercelletti (No. 4), Martina Dedaj (No. 5) and Charlotte Fabricius (No. 6) each won in consecutive sets. White, however, needed two tie-breakers in a row to knock off Augusta State’s Marina Ferreria, while Fabricius needed a second-set tie-break to defeat the Lady Jaguars’ Roberta Oliveria.
Clayton State also won at No. 1 doubles as Semyrodenko and Krommelova blanked Augusta State’s Victoria Lindqvist and Julie Fontaine 8-0.
