ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – No. 4 Armstrong Atlantic (28-2) overpowered No. 5 Hawaii Pacific, 5-0, Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships from Sanlando Park.

The victory guarantees the Pirates a spot in the national semifinal against No.2 Barry University on Friday afternoon. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.

The Pirates breezed through the doubles portion, before collecting a pair of singles wins, ensuring victory.

The No. 3 doubles tandem of Aleksndra and Jessica Gardefjord opened the scoring for the Peach Belt Conference champions downing the pair of Florie Paquay and Carrie Schuler, 8-5. At top flight singles, the third-ranked team of Barbora Krtickova and Alida Muller-Wehlau subdued the seventh-ranked duo of Zora Vlkova and Celina Goetti, 8-3. The No.13 duo Kathleen Henry and Tina Ronel put the finishing touches on the doubles sweep as they tamed the Seasiders’ lineup of Ielyzaveta Rybakova and Alexsandra Stankovic, 8-5.

The singles session saw AASU claim their fourth point as result of retirement. The Pirates’ Filipovski was up 2-1 in the first set before Goetti retired from the match. Armstrong’s No.4 Ronel closed out the contest with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Stankovic.

The loss eliminates Hawaii Pacific from the Tennis Championships.
