No. 9 Virginia sweeps pair of matches

Cavaliers pick up wins against West Virginia, Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Ninth-ranked Virginia remained unbeaten on the season by sweeping a pair of matches on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers topped West Virginia 7-0 in the first match of the day before blanking Virginia Tech 7-0 in their ACC opener in the second match of the doubleheader. The Cavaliers improved to 4-0 (1-0 ACC) with the victories.

The Cavaliers didn’t drop a set on the day to post the shutout wins. In singles, Lindsey Hardenbergh, Li Xi, Erin Vierra, Maria Fuccillo and Molly O’Koniewski each posted a pair of singles victories on the day. Hana Tomljanovic added a win against the Mountaineers and Emily Fraser had a win against the Hokies.

The doubles pairs of Tomljanovic/Vierra and Hardenbergh/Fuccillo both had wins in the two matches. Fraser teamed with O’Koniewski for a doubles win against West Virginia and with Xi for a victory against Virginia Tech.
