GLENDALE, Ariz. — BYU-Hawaii opened the season Wednesday with a pair of wins in Arizona.
The second-ranked Seasiders defeated 14th-ranked Grand Canyon 8-1 to start the day and followed that up with a 9-0 victory against Western New Mexico later in the day.
Annie Hwang led the way for the Seasiders against Grand Canyon. She teamed with Sherry Liu for an 8-0 win at the top doubles spot and then put up more zeroes in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Liu won at second singles 6-2, 6-3 and BYU-Hawaii picked up wins at third, fifth, and sixth singles as well. The Seasiders swept the three doubles matches.
Against Western New Mexico the Seasiders again swept the doubles matches easily and got 6-0, 6-0 wins from Tanja Rebholz at number three singles and Kaylyn Briston at number five singles. Sasha Ulbrichtova at number four and Sophia Simmons at number six each won 6-1, 6-0 for the Seasiders.
