STANFORD, Calif. – No. 2 Stanford powered its way to a 5-2 victory against Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Improving to 3-0, the Cardinal can now shift its focus to Sunday’s highly-anticipated regular season matchup against No. 1 Florida. In addition to pitting the nation’s top two programs against each other, the contest represents a rematch of the last two national championships.
The Cardinal easily handled its business on Saturday, cruising past Pepperdine (2-4).
Stanford swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.
Wins by Mallory Burdette and Nicole Gibbs gave Stanford a 3-0 advantage, only to see Pepperdine collect wins at the bottom of the lineup to creep within 3-2.
Stacey Tan’s 6-3, 7-6 (5) triumph at the No. 3 spot provided the clincher.
