No. 12 Columbus St. eases to victory

Cougars’ Jung tallies first singles victory with a sweep

COLUMBUS, Ga. — No. 12 Columbus State won all nine matches en route to its fourth victory of the season, defeating Tuskegee 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Cougars (4-0) played a different lineup on Sunday as Carolin Weikard and Madeline Johnson played together at first doubles. The duo had no problem as they won the match 8-0 against Knight and Scott.

Andrea Redrado and Renata Paiva paired up for the first time this season and defeated J. Dixon and Willoughby 8-1 at second doubles. Olivera Jokic and Sandra Jung wrapped-up doubles play taking down Creighton and McGee 8-1 at third doubles.

Playing at first singles for the first time this season, 36th-ranked Weikard swept both sets from Knight 6-0, 6-0. Johnson also won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles against Scott.

Redrado won in consecutive sets at third singles defeating Willoughby 6-0, 6-1. Jokic also pitched a shutout in singles play taking down A. Dixon 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth singles match of the afternoon.

Sandra Jung won her first collegiate singles match Sunday as she defeated McGee 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles. In the final match of the day, Paiva took down Creighton 6-0, 6-1 with ease.
