Armstrong blanks No. 8 West Florida
Pirates sweep all three doubles matches in the victory
COLUMBUS, Ga. -- No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State moved to 3-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory against No. 8-ranked West Florida on Saturday in Columbus, Ga.
The Pirates swept all three doubles matches for a quick 3-0 lead against the Argonauts (1-2). The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova notched an 8-1 win against Caitlyn Baines and Sheila Smiley at No. 1 doubles. The No. 25-ranked duo of Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa beat Barbara Oliveira and Mariana Sonnervig 9-7 at No. 2 doubles while the No. 9-ranked duo of Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez claimed an 8-3 win against Hannah Durham and Naomi Higa at No. 3 doubles.
Armstrong then picked up wins in all six singles matches for the final 9-0 margin. No. 2-ranked Krtickova downed No. 17-ranked Oliviera, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles while No. 6-ranked Filipovski beat Baines, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Kalodzitsa played a 10-point third-set tiebreak to knock off Mariana Sonnervig, 6-7 (4), 6-3, (10-8) at No. 3 singles.
No. 22-ranked Henry beat Smiley, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4 singles while No. 15-ranked Hacke downed Higa, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles. No. 29-ranked Perez completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Fernanda Amaral at No. 6 singles.
