CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- No. 12 Miami (Fla.) extended its winning streak to seven matches as it defeated No. 10 Baylor 6-1 on Tuesday night.
Senior Anna Bartenstein, ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest ITA poll, won the clinching match in her always fiery fashion. After a brisk 6-0 first set, Bartenstein then battled her 27th-ranked opponent, Nina Secerbegovic to a 6-4 victory in the second set.
The other Miami senior, No. 32 Gabriela Mejia, picked up a huge win for herself as she handled No. 13 Diana Nakic 6-2, 6-3. In doubles play, Mejia and her partner Lina Lileikite moved to 10-0 on the season with an 8-4 win against the Baylor duo of Nakic and Sona Novakova.
Earlier in the day it was announced that Lileikite was named the ACC Player of the Week for the second consecutive time. However, the 99th-ranked freshman would fall for the first time on the season to Novakova -- the 53rd-ranked singles player in the nation.
The Canes’ Melissa Bolivar, Liat Simmerman and Brittany Dubins each won in straight sets against Baylor’s Ema Burgic (6-1, 6-2), Megan Horter (6-2, 6-4) and Nicole Kosakowski (6-3, 6-1) respectively.
