CALIFORNIA, Pa. — Down 2-1 after doubles, No. 1 Williams won five of six singles matches to win, 6-3 win against Division II California (Pa.) on Sunday.
With the win the Ephs improved to 5-0 overall this year, having opened the fall portion of the schedule by going 4-0. California State (PA), ranked 11th nationally in Division II, falls to 10-4.
The lone Eph doubles team to capture a victory was at No.3 where Rebecca Curran and Nancy Worley prevailed, 8-3.
Kara Shoemaker stepped up to the top spot in the lineup today and bounced back from a first set loss (3-6) to win set two 7-5. Shoemaker then took the match with a 6-3 victory in the third set.
Nancy Worley playing at No. 2 also lost her first set, but prevailed in three sets. Worley lost the first set 6-4, but claimed set two 6-2 and then outlasted Jade Pondicas 11-9 in the third.
