FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — No. 1 Williams concluded its spring break trip on Thursday with a 7-2 win against DII-No. 18 Nova Southeastern.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kara Shoemaker and Taylor French earned a hard-fought point, taking their proset 9-8 (3). Kathleen Elkins and Kristin Alotta had an easier battle, taking their set 8-3, to give Williams a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Williams elevated their play again during the singles session, taking five of the six matches. Kristin Alotta had a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1. Kara Shoemaker worked hard to take her first set 7-5 and cruised home with a 6-3 victory in the second. Caroline Capute’s match almost the same script. Capute won her first set in a tiebreak before taking her second 6-3 as well.

Nancy Worley and Kathleen Elkins had smooth, straight set victories to round out the contest.
