Fla. Southern downs Northwood
Timberwolves forfeit two points due to short-handed roster
LAKELAND, Fla. -- No. 19 Florida Southern pushed its record past the .500 mark with a 6-3 win against a short-handed No. 16 Northwood (Mich.) team on Wednesday.
Northwood only had five players, so the Moccasins picked up default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles to start the match with a 2-0 advantage.
The remaining two doubles matches were split, with the Moccasins' 14th-ranked team of Magda Riutort and Sabine Goge winning 8-5 at No. 1.
Goge won her singles match at No. 2 in straight sets to put FSC ahead 4-1, then Olivia Spagnuolo posted a straight-set win at No. 5 to clinch the match.
The win puts the Moccasins at 9-8 for the season. Northwood fell to 14-3.
