Amherst captures Nor’Easter Bowl

Third-ranked Lord Jeffs down Tufts to end weekend perfect

AMHERST, Mass. – Third-ranked Amherst (7-2, 0-1 NESCAC) extended its win streak to three with an 8-1 victory against No. 12 Tufts (5-4, 1-0 NESCAC) to win the Nor’Easter Bowl.

Jordan Brewer and Laura Danzig headlined Amherst’s doubles lineup with an 8-1 victory against Shelci Bowman and Sophie Schonfeld, while Zoe Pangalos and Jennifer Newman scored an 8-3 triumph against Lindsay Katz and Eliza Flynn. Gabby Devlin and Caroline Richman completed the Jeffs’ doubles sweep with an 8-1 win against Samantha Gann and Janice Lam.

Brewer kick-started singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Katz, while Danzig defeated Bowman 6-1, 6-0. Knotted at a set apiece in a third singles matchup with Flynn, Newman secured a 10-8 victory in the final frame, while Gann notched Tufts’ lone point of the day with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Richman.

Pangalos upended Rebecca Kimmel 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles, while Safi Aly held her own at the bottom of the Amherst order with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Lam.
