LAKELAND, Fla. -- With the curtain dropping on the regular season, No. 24 Florida Tech (16-6, 4-4 SSC) pulled off a 6-3 upset of No. 19 Florida Southern (10-9, 3-5 SSC) Wednesday afternoon at the FSC Courts.

Having won 10 of their last 12 matches, the Panthers will now start preparing for the SSC Championship, scheduled for next Thursday-Saturday in Lakeland.

“This was a big win for the girls,” head coach Bill Macom said. “They had positive practices leading up to this match, and that was an important reason for them to play with a good amount of confidence.” 

For the 17th time this season, FIT entered singles with the lead. No. 12 Katarina and Kristina Huba took down 14th-ranked Magda Riutort and Sabine Goge, 8-5, at No. 1 to even the score. Monica Price and Abbey Keister put the Panthers ahead with a 9-7 victory against Joalis Dominguez and Jessica Cove at No. 3.

Abigail Greif turned back Christie Nunnemann, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Kristina Huba emerged victorious after her opponent had to retire following set two. Keister, who entered the match having won four of her last five, took down Laura Wichmann, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6. No. 19 Katarina Huba capped off the match with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 win at the top spot.
