Chicago crushes Washington U.
Maroons race away with 8-1 victory in matchup of top-15 teams
CHICAGO -- No. 6 Chicago snapped No. 11 Washington-St. Louis' three-match winning streak as the Maroons raced to an 8-1 home victory on Sunday.
Chicago (16-4) swept all three doubles matches, before winning five of six singles matches for the team victory.
Kendra Higgins led the way for the Maroons, picking up a pair of wins at the top slot. Higgins won her singles matchup with Natalie Tingir 6-2, 6-2 after helping UC to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Higgins' earlier point came with teammate Carmen Vaca Guzman, as the duo pounded out an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, topping Kate Klein and Corinne Rauck.
Linden Li was the only Maroon who went to a third set. She knocked off Washington U.'s Paige Madara at the No. 4 slot wiht a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) victory.
Rauck won at No. 6 singles for Washington U. (12-5) for the Bears' only victory.
The Maroons previously defeated Washington U. 5-0 at the Midwest Invitational on April 7 in Madison, Wis. All five of Washington U.'s losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the top 12 in Division III, including twice to the Maroons.
