Patriots’ Gavdunova improves singles record to 69-8
FLORENCE, S.C. -- No. 10 Francis Marion men and women earned Peach Belt-Conference victories against North Georgia on Sunday with the men rallying for a 6-3 win against 25th-ranked Saints and the women claiming a 8-1 win.
The Patriot women ended their regular season with a 16-2 overall record and place third in the PBC with a 10-2 mark. The FMU men finished up 10-5 and 6-3 and place fourth in the conference standings.
On Sunday, the men fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, but rallied to win five of the six singles matches. Among the singles victories was a straight-set decision by Dirk Bair at the No. 6 position.
On the women's side, Francis Marion's only loss came at No. 6 singles. The lone senior, Jitka Gavdunova, continued to add to her impressive career marks with a pair of wins. She improved her singles record to 69-8 with a straight-sets win at No. 1, and improved her career doubles record to 72-11 with an easy 8-2 victory at the top spot.
