DII Abilene Christian only loses one set against DI opponent Butler in 7-0 shutout

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ranked No. 3 in Division II, Abilene Christian began its three-day road trip Sunday with a convincing 7-0 win against Division I Butler.

The Wildcats’ (7-1) victory was their sixth in a row and fourth by shutout, while Butler fell to 3-10.

The Wildcats won all but one set. ACU’s three doubles teams all won by matching scores of 8-1, and then its six singles players captured 12 of 13 sets. No. 32 Micah Hermsdorf – playing at No. 2 singles – won her first set against Caroline Hedrick 7-6 (1), but then lost the second 6-2, before coming back to win the third 6-0.

In doubles, the fifth-ranked team of Julie Mongin and Brittney Reed improved to 4-1 at the top position, while 2012 All-Americans Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley improved to 3-1 with their win at No. 2. Kaysie Hermsdorf and Laura Mongin won the match at No. 3, giving the Wildcats an overall doubles season record of 21-2 (.913).

ACU’s combined singles record is an equally staggering 40-7 (.851).
