Fourth-ranked Barry claims victory with 9-0 sweep of No. 22 St. Edward's
AUSTIN, Texas — Fourth-ranked Barry routed 22nd-ranked St. Edward’s 9-0 at the Brother Emmett Strohmeyer Varsity Courts on Thursday.
None of the matches were particularly close as the Bucs, coming off their big win against No. 3 Abilene Christian, experienced no letdown as they shut out the ‘Toppers.
In doubles, the Bucs won all three matches by scores of 8-2. Linda Fritschken and Kimmy Twelker remained perfect by beating Paige Rachel and Rafaela Haegele at No. 2.
In singles, it was not much closer, with five of the 12 sets finishing at love. Fritschken led the way at number one, beating Alexandra Khadhyzan 6-0, 6-0.
Elisabeth Abanda got back to her winning ways with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Rachel at No. 2. Emma Onila improved to 11-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Florence Boinon at No. 3.
Karina Goia moved up to the four spot, replacing Twelker who sat out singles, and knocked off Haegele 6-4, 6-2 in the closest match. Akemi Maehama beat Francesca Chahor 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, while Isabela Miro defeated Katherine Sullivan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
