Falcons' men’s 4x400 relay qualified for indoor championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Saint Augustine’s College men’s 4x400 relay team ran an indoor time of 3:11.44 Saturday which automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held at March 11-12 in Albuquerque, N.M.
The 4x4 foursome of Kelly Fisher, Jason Boyd, Josh Edmonds and Antonio Abney finished second behind GW Express in the event at the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech at Rector Field House. GW Express, featuring former Falcon national champions Josh Scott and Bershawn Jackson, won the race in 3:09.45. Jackson is an Olympic bronze medalist and 2005 world champion in the 400-meter hurdles.
Several Falcons reached NCAA provisional marks at the two-day meet. Kellie Shaw ran 56.80 in the women’s 400-meter dash, and the women’s 4x400 relay team of Unique Conner, Sheena Johns, Jasmin Peterson-Hassan and Shaw finished in 3:50.86.
Ramon Gittens was timed in 21.81 in the men’s 200-meter dash, while Edmonds and Abney ran times of 48.15 and 48.67, respectively, in the men’s 400-meter dash. Boyd was clocked in 8.20 in the men’s 60-meter hurdles and Christopher Copeland leaped 2.09 meters in the men’s high jump.
Orolando Duffus jumped 7.14 meters in the men’s long jump and 14.79 meters in the men’s triple jump. DeJon Wilkinson leaped 14.64 meters in the men’s triple jump.
The Falcons compete again next Friday and Saturday at the Penn State Nationals in State College, Pa.
