UW-La Crosse wins in loaded field
Eagles win two events, grab five provisional NCAA marks

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Wisconsin-La Crosse captured the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational Friday night, finishing with 137 team points while North Central placed second with 126 in the eight-team field. UW-Whitewater placed third (122) followed by UW-Oshkosh (99.50), Augustana College (Ill.) (60.50), Chicago (46), Loras (18) and St. Mary's (Minn.) (10.0).
The Eagles' Zach Lee captured the 55-meter dash with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 6.46. UW-L's Troy Brooks won the long jump with a provisional mark of 7.00 meters.
Other top finishes on the track included Matt Gordy second in the 55-meter dash (6.46) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.76). He provisionally qualified for the national meet in the 55-meter dash.
Brian Shonat and David Stilin both provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships as Shonat was second in the mile run (4:14.37) while Stilin placed third in the 5,000-meter run (14:34.26).
UW-L's 4x400-meter relay of Aric Hoeschen, Tyson Young, Terrence Thigpen and Paul Yerhot also provisionally qualified for the national meet with a second-place finish (3:18.55).
The Eagles' 4x200-meter relay of Jared Sitte, Ryan McCrary, Caleb Roberts and Isaac Vazquez were third (1:31.78).
Yerhot was third (50.08) and Hoeschen fourth (50.20) in the 400-meter dash while Andy Grossman finished third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.93) and Sean Royer fourth in the 800-meter run (1:56.36).
In the field events, Andy Novak, Dave Pergande and Kellen McCrary each provisionally qualified for the indoor nationals. Novak finished second in the shot put (16.01 meters) while Pergande was third in the pole vault (4.70) and McCrary fourth in the triple jump (14.59).
The Eagles' Rob Rohe and Jeremiah Burish tied for fourth in the pole vault (4.56 meters).
