Brown takes over at Coast Guard
Rose steps down to concentrate on director role
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Dan Rose, head coach of the Coast Guard Academy men’s and women’s track team for the past 15 years, will step aside to concentrate on his role as Director of Physical Education which he took over in the summer of 2008.
Ethan Brown, an assistant coach with the program for the past three years and the women’s cross country coach, will take over as head coach.
Rose coached 15 All-Americans and 41 NCAA qualifiers during his tenure and he was named the Division III New England Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2008 and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in 2006.
In the 2007-08 season, Rose led both the indoor and outdoor men’s track teams to unbeaten records in dual meets for the first time since 1969.
Coast Guard has had 22 New England Champions in various events and four champions at the All-New England Championships, a meet which consists of athletes from Divisions I, II and III.
Rose is a Past President of the Division III New England Track & Field Coaches Association and former chair of both the Division III and All-Divisions Track and Field Standard Committee.
Brown also enters his third season as women’s cross country coach at the Academy. He was a standout at Springfield College where he was a two-time All-New England high jumper. He finished 12th in the high jump at the 2001 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
