GVSU runs well at Alumni Open
Phillips earns first place finish in 600-meter run

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State men's track and field team hosted the Mike Lints Alumni Open on Friday evening (Jan. 21) at the Laker Turf Building. GVSU's Eric Phillips earned the Lakers a first place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:22.34. The Lakers will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete at the Indiana Relays on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29).
In the 3,000-meter run, Tyler Emmorey finished fourth with a time of 8:23.63, while teammate Jeff Nordquist placed fifth (8:24.30), Anthony Witt 10th (8:29.55) and Paul Zielinski 12th (8:33.87). Mohamed Mohamed crossed the finish line second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.39-seconds, while Chris Teitsma placed fourth (49.87) and Steaphon Harris sixth (49.94).
Deonte Hurst finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68-seconds, while Jacob Alexander placed eighth (8.76). In the 60-meter dash, Xavier Parnell crossed the finish line sixth with a time of 7.06-seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Teitsma, Harris, Eric Lowe and Mohamed finished first with a time of 3:22.93.
In the field events, Patrick Livengood recorded a third place finish in the high jump with a height of 6'6.75", while Steve Reives tied for sixth in the men's long jump with a mark of 21'0". The Lakers claimed two of the top-three spots in the triple jump, as Tendo Lukwago finished second with a hop, skip and a leap of 46'10", followed by Rieves in third (44'8.25"). Bret Myers finished tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 15'3", followed by Quinton Dennis in fifth (15'3") and Steven Ferguson (14'9").
Donny Stiffler claimed a second place finish in the shot put with a toss of 53'7.75", while Kyle Eno finished fifth (48'6.25"). In the weight throw, Andrew Gorley earned a second place finish with a toss of 52'10", while Nathan Dekam finished fourth (50'9.25") and Clay Lipski in fifth (50'2.5").
