LINCOLN, Neb. — Romel Lewis beat out 39 other athletes, many from Division I schools, to win the 60 meters, highlighting a solid performance from No. 1 Lincoln (Mo.) at the Sevigne Husker Invitational. The meet, hosted by Nebraska, featured teams from across the NCAA’s three divisions of competition, including more than 10 Division I programs.
Lewis finished in 6.74 to win the race while teammate Joshua Manuel came in sixth at 6.90. Lewis also helped the Blue Tigers’ 4×400 relay team to a top-five finish, combining with Steve Banton, Terrel Cotton and Michael Ashley to take fifth in 3:15.41, the best time in the MIAA this season.
Sabiel Anderson had the other top-10 result for Lincoln, placing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.02.
The Blue Tigers also had five athletes qualify to compete in consolation races of their respective events, with Ashley posting the best result with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash (48.54). Banton and Anderson also qualified for that consolation race, with Banton taking fifth at 48.78 while Anderson placed seventh at 48.95.
Manuel competed in the consolation race of the 200 meters, taking eighth in 22.33. Ravel Grey participated in the consolation race of the 60 meters dash, finishing fourth with a time of 6.89.
