Saint Augustine’s wins CIAA crown
Dudley named MVP, helps lead Falcons to 14th consecutive title
HAMPTON, Va. -- Saint Augustine's easily won its 14th consecutive CIAA crown at Boo Williams Sportsplex on Sunday. The Falcons scored 135 points to outdistance second-place Virginia State (86) and third-place Winston-Salem State (67).
Aaron Dudley of the Falcons was named men's track MVP. He won the 800-meter run, placed second in the one-mile run and third in the 5,000-meter run. Josh Edmonds swept the 200 and 400-yard dashes for Saint Augustine's.
Overall, the Falcons won five men's events. Other winners were Christopher Copeland in the high jump and the 4x400 relay team of Kelly Fisher, Jason Boyd, James Quarles and Edmonds.
The Falcons, ranked third in the latest USTFCCCA Division II men's poll, dominated the competition with their depth. DeJon Wilkinson placed second in the triple jump, and the men's distance medley team of Jameel Walcott, Karym Greaves, Anthony Boone and Dudley also finished second. Ty'reak Murray also had a runner-up finish in the heptathlon for Saint Augustine's.
Boyd and Quarles were second and third, respectively, in the 400-yard dash as the Falcons swept the podium positions. Alexander Louden and Eddie Shelton (Soph./Daltona, Fla.) tied for third in the high jump and Ramaan Ansley was third in the 60 dash.
