ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's track and field team hosted the Mike Lints Alumni Open on Friday evening (Jan. 21) at the Laker Turf Building. GVSU's Monica Kinney set a new school record in the mile run and also qualified for nationals with an automatic time of 4:43.24. The Lakers will head to Bloomington, Ind. on Friday, Jan. 28 for the Indiana Relays starting at 3:00 p.m.
Kinney earned a first place finish and beat Mandi Zemba's school record time of 4:45.40. Teammate Katherine McCarthy crossed the finish line third with a time provisional time of 4:54.42, followed by Julia Nowak in sixth (5:03.02).
In the 3,000-meter run, the Lakers claimed three of the top-four spots. Eileen Creutz notched the top-spot with a time of 9:57.90, while Rebecca Winchester finished third (10:02.94) and Sara Parks in fourth (10:07.58). Adrienne Chandler crossed the finish line third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.84-seconds, while Andrea Kober placed sixth (59.24). In the 800-meter run, Ashley Botham notched the top-spot with a time of 2:16.04, while Danielle Tepper finished third (2:19.62).
Amber Triner placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.10-seconds, followed by Kalena Franklin in sixth (9.25). In the 60-meter dash, Autumn Lantz crossed the finish line tied for fifth with a mark of 7.96-seconds, while Brittney Jackson placed eighth (7.98). Chanelle Caldwell finished fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:33.43, while Lisa Galasso placed seventh (1:36.65).
Kayla Vallar claimed a third place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.64-seconds and Autumn Lantz placed eighth (26.04). The 4x400-meter relay team of Vallar, Adrienne Chandler, Kober and Galasso earned a first place finish with a time of 3:56.18.
In the field events, Jocelyn Kuksa finished tied for second in the pole vault. Her vault of 12'5.5" improved on her previous provisional mark, while Kristen Hixson placed fourth (11'5.75"). Aileen Lemanski finished tied for ninth in the long jump with a distance of 15'6.25".
Katelyn Fox earned a second place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 47'4.5", while in the shot put Lauren Buresh finished first and improved on her previous provisional mark with a distance of 47'4.5". Aubree Suor tied for second in the high jump with a height of 5'1.25".
