WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Central Missouri track and field hosted the annual UCM Invitational, Friday. Six teams, three of them conference opponents, competed in 16 events for both men and women. In team scoring, Emporia State University took the men’s competition with 160.33 points; the Mules were second with 118.33. The Jennies were the victors in the women’s team scoring with 164 points.
UCM had 12 first-place finishes, five from the Mules, seven from the Jennies. Junior Lindsay Lettow (Urbandale, Iowa) orchestrated wins in four events. Her first-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles was an NCAA Division-II provisional qualifying mark (8.68). Her first win of the year came in the long jump, she also won the 600 yard run, and ran the anchor leg of the Jens winning mile relay team.
Her teammate Stephany Johnson (Jefferson City, Mo.) set a pair of personal bests while winning the 60 meter dash (7.92) and finishing third in the 200 meter dash (26.81). The sophomore also won her signature event, the triple jump, with a provisional mark (37’06.50”).
Junior Cori Whitson (Phoenix, Ariz.) jumped into a tie for fourth on the all-time list with her event winning pole vault (10’11.75”), just shy of an NCAA provisional height.
For the Mules, Drew Frizzell (Chillicothe, Mo.) defended his home gym with a first-place finish in the shot put. Then, he tossed an NCAA automatic qualifying weight throw (64’00.50”) to win that event.
On the track, UCM took wins in three events. First it was Mule newcomer Khaldon Evans (St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica) with a great display of speed in the 400 meter dash. The junior transferred to UCM from Minot State (N.D.). Another junior, Jacob White (Ashland, Mo.), topped the 800 meter run.
Mules cross country standout Dalton Moberly gutted out a 3000 meter victory. The junior from Kearney, Mo., led most of the race, finishing in a personal best time (8:38.58).
UCM track and field will be back in action when they host the UCM Mule Relays. The two-day event starts with the women on Friday, January 28, at 1 p.m. The Mules host the men’s side of the event starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday the 29th.
