Lady Reds win tadd Metzger Invitational
The Carthage College women's indoor track and field team (24-5), ranked 10th in the Jan. 26 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field poll and fourth in the Midwest Region, won the Friday, Jan. 28 Carthage “Tadd Metzger Invitational” at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage won the 15-team event with 118.50 points, one and one-half points ahead of second-place Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 117. Wisconsin-Oshkosh was third at 107, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside fourth at 72, St. Norbert College fifth at 65.50, Aurora University sixth at 42, Valparaiso University seventh at 36, Robert Morris University (Ill.) eighth at 34, Judson University and Ripon College tied for ninth at 27 each, Concordia University (Wis.) 11th at 15, Marquette University 12th at 14, Concordia University (Chicago) 13th with seven points, the Milwaukee School of Engineering 14th with six and Rockford College 15th with five points.
Carthage's Ashura Jenkins (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) won both the 55-meter dash (7.38) and the 200-meter dash (26.58). Katie Kummerer (Fr., Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale-Central) took first place in the 1,000-meter run (3:11.24), as did Stephanie Moy (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) in the pole vault (11-5 ¾).
Carnesha Johnson (Fr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) was third in both the 55-meter dash (7.55) and the 200-meter dash (26.94). Sarah Thompson (Jr., Byron, Ill.) was third in both the 55-meter high hurdles (8.86) and the high jump (5-1 ¾). Molly Chlum (Jr., Tinley Park, Ill./Orland Hills-Andrew) finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:02.50), as did Joslyn Drew (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the triple jump (34-5 ½) and Mindy Harrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) in the shot put (43-0 ½).
The Lady Reds travel to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 4-5 for the Illinois Wesleyan University “Bob Keck Invitational” at the Shirk Center (3 p.m./11 a.m.).
