LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Southern Illinois track & field team wrapped up competition Saturday inside the Nutter Field House at the Rod McCravy Memorial with nine top-ten finishes.
“There were a couple of good things,” said head coach Connie Price-Smith. “It was a quality meet. Nothing spectacular, but I think everybody competed hard.”
“We’ll go back in and look at the training, figure out a few things, and go from there.”
Among the top finishers, Jeneva McCall and Gwen Berry both finished in the top eight in the women’s weight throw. McCall finished second with a mark of 54-01.25, extending a streak of top five finishes that started at the beginning of the 2009-10 indoor season, while Berry claimed eighth with a distance of 48-09.00.
In other field events, Maxim Bakana took seventh place in the men’s long jump with a mark of 22-09.25, while freshman Douglas Palacious followed closely in ninth at 21-00.50. Nina Okafor took ninth in the women’s long jump at 18-10.00.
On the track, Zach Dahleen recorded a new personal record in the mile run with a time of 4:06.94 – good for fourth place.
The Salukis will return home next weekend, when they host the 2011 SIU Invitational.
