CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — No. 2 Lincoln (Mo.) captured eight top-five finishes en route to a sixth place team finish at the Illini Classic.
Three of those top-five finishes came in the 400-meters, as Tamara Keane finished as the runner-up (57.04) while Yanique Haye placed fourth (58.35) and Michelle Cumberbatch took fifth (58.52).
LU was also represented well in the long jump, as Nickeisha Beaumont came in second at 5.76 meters and Shakeisha Miller finished third with a distance of 5.48.
Latoya King placed fourth in the 200-meters, finishing in 25.01 as one of three Blue Tigers to place in the top 10. Cumberbatch finished eighth at 25.49 while Jenea Johnson placed ninth at 25.68.
Sherikaye Campbell took fourth in the high jump (1.63 meters) while the women’s 4×400 relay team took fifth, finishing in 3:54.05.
One other Blue Tiger who had a couple of notable finishes was Twishana Williams, who represented Lincoln in the distance races. Williams posted ninth-place finishes in both the 800 meter run (2:22.57) and the mile (5:16.79).
As a team, Lincoln finished with 57.50 points to take sixth overall. Illinois scored 227 points to win the meet while Missouri placed second (98 points), Northern Illinois finished third (81), SIU-Edwardsville placed fourth (61) and Murray State rounded out the top five (58.50).
Southeast Missouri (30), Tennessee State (seven) and Bradley (three) also competed.
