LUBBOCK, Texas – McMurry University saw 11 men and four women set or improve provisional marks for the NCAA III Outdoor meet Saturday at the Texas Tech Open. In addition Terry Smith automatically qualified in the 400-meter hurdles while joining Bryce Williamson, Phillip Harris and Kevin Cunningham to automatically qualify in the 4X400-meter race.

Smith posted the top time in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.53 seconds. The automatic mark to qualify is set at 52.65 seconds, and Smith joins Monmouth's Logan Hohl as the only two competitors to automatically qualify so far.

The 4X400-meter relay team was the first group to provisionally qualify for the national outdoor meet. The provisional mark is 3:16.40, and the War Hawks clocked a 3:13.96, which was just 0.96 seconds off the automatic mark.

On the women's side, for the second-straight week Porsha Dardy, Kendra Coleman, Carla Burton and Clemitra Smiley improved their provisional mark in the 4X100-meter relay race with a mark of 48.04 seconds Saturday. The tandem's time was just 0.01 seconds off the top time posted in the nation by Methodist University.

On the men's side, Kenneth Turner posted the top time in the nation to provisionally qualify with a time of 10.60 seconds while Gavan Bass ran a 10.79 for a provisional mark.

Phillip Harris clocked a 21.46 in the 200-meter dash to set a provisional mark, and senior Chido Ekwu set his first-career provisional mark in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds. Smith also posted the third-best time in the nation in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.74 seconds.

Bass, John Keith, Harris and Turner teamed up for a 41.60 in the 4X100-meter relay race for the second-best time in the nation and a provisional mark. Pole vaulter Brock Steinbock jumped 16-02.75 for the third-best jump in the nation and a provisional mark. Paul Davis set a provisional mark in the shot put but has a previous throw that ranks No. 2 in the nation.
