Colorado State-Pueblo to serve as host
DII Outdoor Championships in 2012, 2013 to be hosted in Pueblo
Colorado State -Pueblo will be the host site for the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The championships will take place May 24-26, 2012, and May 23-25, 2013, at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo.
“Being selected as the host school for the outdoor track and field championships is a huge honor, and I want to thank the NCAA for considering us to host this outstanding event,” Athletics Director Joe Folda said. “Our campus, as well as the community of Pueblo, will be gracious hosts to the track athletes, and we’re excited to tell the nation about CSU-Pueblo’s excellence.”
Colorado State-Pueblo track and field coach Chad Perry, who has emerged as one of Colorado’s top track meet directors, said the event will allow the university to showcase one of the finest Division II track and field facilities in the nation.
Perry said the championships will show how far the Colorado State-Pueblo program has come since it was resurrected in 2008.
“There’s nothing like having a national championship event in your hometown, and it will provide a great opportunity for recruiting and get people in our community excited for track,” Perry said.
The track championships will mark the sixth and seventh times for Colorado State-Pueblo to host a national championship. The previous ones were women’s basketball (AIAW), 1975; men’s tennis, 1975; women’s gymnastics (AIAW), 1983; and wrestling, 1994 and 1998.
