No. 2 UW-Oshkosh scores four event titles; No. 8 UW-La Crosse wins invite
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- No. 2 UW-Oshkosh won four events and finished second overall at the UW-Platteville Women's Track & Field Invitational held Saturday.
No. 8 UW-La Crosse captured the team title with 189.33 points, while UW-Oshkosh placed second with 146, UW-Eau Claire was third with 107 and UW-Whitewater was fourth with 86. No. 1 Wartburg finished fifth in the 11-team meet with 68 points.
UW-Oshkosh scored 21 points in both the 800-meter run and hammer throw events.
Christy Cazzola won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.96, while McKenzie Kelly finished third in 2:15.61 and Kylee Verhasselt finished fourth in 2:16.51.
In the hammer throw, Samantha Loew took first place with a distance of 168-8. Abby Martin finished second with a mark of 149-7 and Melanie Brickner sixth with a measurement of 146-0. Brickner also ranked fourth in the shot put with a toss of 40-11 3/4 and seventh in the discus with a cast of 114-6.
Other individual winners for the Titans were Taylor Bauer and Heather Clankie. Bauer posted a time of 4:56.47 in the 1,500-meter run, while Clankie threw to a distance of 135-1 in the discus.
Contributing second-place finishes were UW-Oshkosh's Kasey Ederer and Amanda Shober. Ederer leaped to a height of 5-5 in the high jump, while Shober earned a measurement of 37-10 in the triple jump.
The Titans' Samantha Blue finished third in two events. She ran to a time of 25.84 in the 200-meter dash while marking a distance of 17-4 1/4 in the long jump. Other third-place finishes went to Martin in the shot put with a distance of 41-7 1/4 and Tessa Thurs in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.18.
UW-Oshkosh took the fourth and fifth places in the 100-meter hurdles as Megan Geldernick and Taylor Sherry posted times of 15.56 and 15.69, respectively.
In the relays, UW-Oshkosh placed second at 1,600 meters and fourth at 400. Members of the 1,600-meter squad that ran to a time of 3:54.28 were Cazzola, Jahn, Kelly and Verhasselt. The 400-meter group of Blue, Malueg, Shober and Cassandra Hemmen finished with a time of 50.60.
