Lipari's strong finish helps Villanova win 12th distance medley at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA -- Villanova won the women's distance medley relay for a consecutive year and a record 12th time overall on Thursday at the Penn Relays.
Emily Lipari anchored the winning relay, running the mile in 4:37.7 for an overall time of 10:58.84. Angel Piccirillo ran the 1,200 in 3:21.8, Michaela Watkins completed the 400 in 54.6 and Nicky Akande ran the 800 in 2:04.7. Kentucky was second with a team time of 11:04.45, followed by Columbia in 11:07.68.
The race was the highlight of the first day of the 119th running of the meet that opened under tightened security and heightened awareness following the Boston Marathon bombings.
