FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Georgian Court claimed the top spot in the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time in program history on Sunday.

Georgian Court outpaced second-place District of Columbia by a score of 211–162 to win the two-day event. The difference in the championship outcome was Georgian Court’s dominance in the field events. The Lions earned 106 points in just seven field events. In shot put, discus, high jump and hammer throw, three different Georgian Court athletes finished in the top six to earn points.

In all, seven different events were won by the Lions in the meet with Alyssa Hudgins leading the way by winning the shot put (13.85 meters), discus throw (40.01 meters) and the hammer throw (46.32 meters). Other Georgian Court top finishers included Laura Gemignani in javelin (34.98 meters), Meagan Kelly in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:19.59) and Chanel Rogers in the 400 hurdles (1:01.78) and 100 hurdles (15.01).

District of Columbia was also impressive in its second-place showing, topping seven different events with Kaydian Jones winning three herself. Jones won the 100 dash (12.59), the 200 run (25.38), the long jump (5.76 meters) and was part of the Firebirds’ 4x400 relay with Marlena Wright, Jerily Benjamin and Kayla Green that also came in first.
