UCF’s Scott captures gold in 100M at World University Games in Russia

KAZAN, Russia -- Aurieyall Scott delivered Team USA’s first gold medal of the meet and made history in the process as UCF's first medalist at the World University Games.
Decked out in Team USA red, Scott improved with each round of the 100M event. She clinched her heat in the preliminaries with a time of 11.48 (+0.0) before advancing to the finals with the fastest semifinal time of 11.38 (-0.9). She clocked 11.28 (-0.2) to edge Lithuania’s Lina Grincikaite by four-hundredths of a second in the finals for the gold.
Team USA continued Sunday’s success with Landria Buckley posting a personal best in the Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 56.15. She qualified to compete in the finals for the event, which is scheduled for Tuesday. Following the event, the games were postponed shortly for heavy rain and lightning.
Unfortunately, Briana Nelson did not qualify for the Women’s 400 Meter finals after Monday’s semifinals. Likewise, Justin Austin was eliminated from the Men’s 100 Meter semifinals with a time of 10.59. Team USA also was unable to medal in the Women’s Long Jump after Vashti Thomas placed 13th.
