No. 10 Baruch splits pair of matches
Bearcats knock off Stevenson before falling to No. 11 Medaille
NEW YORK -- No. 10 Baruch split its two matches on Sunday afternoon in a tri-match in the ARC Arena.
The Bearcats began by hosting Stevenson and overcame an early disadvantage to rally to victory in four sets with scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19.
Christopher Kaimis and Steven Coniglio (six blocks) led the attack with 12 kills each, while Jack McKee notched 11 kills with a .375 hitting percentage. Sam Park contributed five kills by hitting a team-high .400. Nick Smith dished out 43 assists.
Stevenson jumped out to the opening set 25-21 victory by hitting .278, but struggled the rest of match to finish hitting only .197. The Bearcats ended on a strong note by hitting .333 in the fourth set to clinch the home non-conference victory.
In the second match against 11th-ranked Medaille, the Bearcats were swept in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-17.
Medaille hit for a .338 hitting percentage overall, including .524 in the third set to close out the victory between the two ranked foes.
Coniglio led the Bearcats with eight kills by hitting .389. Kaimis and McKee finished with seven kills each. Taylor Higgs totaled five digs in the tough loss.
