BUFFALO, NY -- No. 10 Medaille hung on for a hard fought win against fifth-ranked Nazareth on Tuesday evening. The Mavs battled to a 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12) victory in their home opener.

In a contest that saw the teams flip flop sets throughout the match, the Mavs found themselves on top as they outlasted the Golden Flyers in the deciding set. A dominant force throughout for Medaille was Trevor Barrett who pounded home a match-high 19 kills, and 5 service aces.

Also coming up big in the win was Erin Kelly who hit with precision, finishing with 12 kills while hitting at a .450 clip.

Aaron Woomer guided the Maverick offense with 37 assists while Brandon Kilijanski was staunch defensively, finishing with a match-best 20 digs.

The Mavs found themselves down by three points early in the fifth set but rallied to tie tit at 9-9. After a Nazareth timeout the Mavs struck for two consecutive points to grab an 11-9 lead which prompted the Nazareth bench to call for another timeout, but it wouldn’t help.
