No. 5 MIT outlasts No. 6 NYU

Engineers earn first win against Violets since 1991

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — No. 5 MIT outlasted No. 6 NYU in a five-set thriller to improve to 15-4 on Saturday. The victory against NYU was the first for the Engineers since 1991 and it snapped the Violets’ 11-match winning streak.

Junior Matt Hohenberger amassed 20 kills, four blocks, and an ace and sophomore Ken Siebert  recorded 18 kills, eight digs, and two blocks for MIT.

Junior Patrick Vatterott totaled 10 kills and eight blocks while freshman Alex Klein added eight kills. Syta finished with 47 assists, 11 digs, four blocks, and three aces as senior David Thomas bolstered the front with four blocks. Seniors Jeremy Velazquez and Daniel Sngiem both collected nine digs.

Junior Taylor Fauntleroy powered NYU with 18 kills as sophomore Connor Mortland dished out 47 assists.
